The final Playstation Store update for the initial month of the New Year (2009) promises to be significantly more feature-packed than what Sony has been previously promoting in its earlier Store updates.

The highlighted offerings in the Playstation Store for this week include Bejeweled 2 and Savage Moon, which can be both purchased for $10. Along with these offerings is a bundle pack for Brain Challenge, allowing gamers to play the game on both the Playstation 3 and Sony’s Playstation Portable. All of these games should challenge players to use their minds and should serve as a nice change-of-pace from the usual array of FPS-styled games that saturate the market.

The latest episode of Pulse is also available for free in the store, along with a price drop for the Burnout Paradise and the Shaun White High Target and Regular Editions. Burnout Paradise now costs $20 while the Shaun White items will only set players back $5.

LittleBigPlanet returns with new add-on content, after Sony chose to exclude it from earlier Playstation Store updates. For prices ranging from nothing to $3, players can outfit their Sackboy with outfits from Kratos, Ape Escape and Toro, along with an offering that commemorates Groundhog Day. Along with LittleBigPlanet, Mirror’s Edge, Skate 2, and Lord of the Rings: Conquest and Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice also has additional offerings to complement their core experiences. The prices of these pieces of content range from nothing to $2, making them prime pieces of real estate for gamers to purchase.

Rock Band, Guitar Hero World Tour and Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore Vol. 2 has some additional music packs in this update. Rock Band players have the chance to listen to the sounds of Grateful Dead, whether that means placing $2 down for individual songs or $10 for a pack. Guitar Hero World Tour players will be able to play hits by Oasis, with their album pack costing $19, with $2 for each individual track.

As for Karaoke Revolution Presents, players will have the opportunity to sing along to songs such as “Twist and Shout” and “Irreplaceable” for $1.49 each.

The usual selection of game and movie trailers, demos and wallpapers are also available in this update for both the Playstation 3 and the PSP. A standout offering in this list is the Final Fantasy XIII trailer, allowing gamers to see just how far along this title is coming.

All in all, a much beefier update than what Sony has given in a while. Here is hoping that the later offerings are just as feature packed.
