Castlevania ChroniclesDownloadable games proved the stars of this week’s Playstation Store update, as the store served up some noteworthy titles that are sure to impress Playstation 3 owners.

Castlevania fans should be especially pleased with this update, as it gives them the opportunity to experience a new style of Castlevania gameplay, courtesy of Konami’s Castlevania Chronicles.

These Chronicles manage to distinguish themselves from the now-familiar Metroid-vania style of play by returning to a strictly linear method of progression. While the game has received mixed reviews, it is definitely recommended for players who are into old-school gaming. It is also extremely cheap, retailing at $5.99.

However, while Castlevania Chronicles is probably the most well-known game on this list, other games and items made their debut in the Playstation Store today, making this another worthwhile update.

The second Penny Arcade Adventures episode along with Crash Commando also made their appearances in the store, retailing at $14.99 and $9.99 respectively. Both are good games that are sure to appeal to a wide variety of players.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars also made itself available in the Store this week, dropping in price to $10, making this game even more affordable for those that want it.

LittleBigPlanet, High Velocity Bowling and Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds saw content additions with this update. LittleBigPlanet’s additions came in the form of holiday costumes; players now have the option of dressing up SackBoy as Santa for free or paying $3 for a festive pack. High Velocity Bowling players will now have the opportunity to add characters Darryl and Gage to their rosters for $1 each, or purchase holiday costumes for their players for free. Finally, Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds players now have the chance to purchase additional costumes for their characters for $3 apiece. Content for Super Stardust Portable was also made available in this update for a measly $5.

Guitar Hero World Tour fans will have the opportunity to download an album pack from the Eagles for $5.49, or purchase individual hits such as “One of These Nights” for $1.49. Rock Band players will have the chance to go country with the “Going Country” pack for $5.49, featuring songs such as “Gunpowder & Lead” by Miranda Lambert and “Sin Wagon” by the Dixie Chicks for $1.99.

For those who purchased Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Vol. 2, you will be able to sing to songs including “Holiday” and “Stand by Me” for $1.49 a piece.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is also represented here, with the option to download a free Storm Pack which features a new mission and the support character Kurenai.

Rock Revolution, despite its questionable reviews, is also represented here, with available songs including “Chimera” and “She’s the Bug” which can be purchased for $1.49.

Along with the usual smattering of themes, trailers and videos, other items of note include a demo for Sonic Unleashed, and Rayman’s second adventure, the Great Escape, becoming available for purchase, should gamers choose to part with $6.

All in all, another successful store update.
