PlayStation 3 update 3.0 now live

That’s right PlayStation owners, now’s your chance to jump onto the last major system update of the year for your PlayStation 3.
The download runs very fast compared to previous updates which either means this download isn’t as grand in size as previous ones or that I caught a really lucky connection.
At first glance, you’ll notice that sparks have now overlay the standard wave stream background and the menu icons have increased in size. However, Update 3.0 is more than a simple face lift as you’ll also notice that the PlayStation Store icon has been moved (to right above the game, movie and under the PlayStation Network disc icon) for more immediate access.
The Information Board has been replaced with “What’s New” which shows of newly updated sections of the PlayStation world (Store and Home) and advertisements of Sony products, including the newly implemented Dynamic Themes and Avatars (not to be confused with the Premium themes for Xbox 360, of course). As of right now, there’s only one dynamic theme on the store and that’s for Little Big Planet at a price of $2.99. What makes these things so “dynamic” is that they feature animations and that’s about it. There are also small tweaks made to the friends list section as well as trophy section which allows you to track core game trophies and trophies from add-on packs separately, a must for any OCD, completionist gamer.
Engadget is also reporting that two unknown features have been added which allow for “simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick.”
What do you guys think of the update? Did it give you everything your heart desired or is it meh?

I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about a lot of different things, but I actually like it all. Two major complaints that I saw were about the menu icon and font size increase, and the gray boxes around your friends in the friend list. While the icon and font size increase somewhat irks me, I know I will get used to it in a few days. As for the gray boxes, I actually like this; I hated having a very bright (or even white) background and being unable to see any of my friends’ names and status due to the white font color. I can see how they may block your background, and for this reason, I believe they should be slightly transparent. I can live with it all, however.
