PETA plans to make more games to promote its cause

Cooking Mama: PETA Edition

Although PETA may have been involved in a controversial back-and-forth with Majesco over its latest Cooking Mama game, it must have found worth in the game’s inherent ability to make players aware of the joys of international cooking and cuisine.

Now PETA - which said in an interview that the point of its Cooking Mama parody title was to “make players aware of their ‘Make Your Meat’ video, a disturbing video of a corporate turkey farm - has decided to continue using the power of games to promote its own agenda.

In speaking with GI.biz, a PETA representative made it clear that the goal of using games to advance PETA’s agenda is to speak to people “who may be turned off by more direct appeals.” The organization also believes that Majesco addressed the disagreement in the best way possible, without any unnecessary hindrances.

Interestingly, PETA is still hopeful of the day when Majesco will make a Cooking Mama game that will focus primarily on vegetarian meals. Whether that day will come remains to be seen. What is true of this whole situation is that there is always someone out there with a bone to pick about the video game industry, even when that bone is a tasty, delectable one akin to what Mama would cook up on a daily basis.
