So you haven’t had enough Patapon to curb your appetite? That’s fine because neither have I.
The land of Patapolis will need saving once again and we are just the deity it needs. As reported by 1UP, Famitsu magazine has confirmed a sequel to the immensely addictive PSP rhythm game.
So far details about this game are scarce at best. You may be happy to know that Patapon 2 will be developed by Pyramid who is the same team who brought us the original title. Patapon 2 will also include a multiplayer option for up to four players. Unfortunately It doesn’t seem like you’ll be able to fight alongside an army half a world away. You and your friends will have to settle for the ad hoc connection instead of using infrastructure mode on PSP.
Patapon’s director Hiroyuki Kotani did give Famitsu a little insight on some of the games changes: “There are lots more bosses and midboss-type enemies this time. We’ve got about double the amount of content to explore, just in terms of the number of stages alone. Add the customization options to that, and to be honest, you may never get to fully explore every bit of it.”
If you haven’t experienced the glory known as Patapon, here is brief synopsis.
Patapon is about a little tribe of creatures with distinctively large eyeballs. They once lived in prosperity until they were ultimately defeated by the Zigotons. This is where you come in. You are in fact the god of the Patapons. As their god it is your duty to lead them to victory against the Zigotons. The Patapon themselves do all the fighting while you control their actions by beating war drums. Each drum is mapped to the PSP’s face buttons. There are a few different combination’s of drum beats to master from attacking, retreating, charging, and guarding. The catch is timing each drum beat to the games rhythm. Every once in a while you’ll have to control weather elements to turn the tide of the battle. Similar to an RPG, you’ll collect items that can be used to resurrect Patapon with varying abilities, as well as acquire weapons and armor. It may sound complicated but trust me, it’s very easy to pick up on.
Japan will be seeing Patapon 2 on their store selves Winter 2008. As for Europe and North America, the release date has yet to be announced. Rest assured there is a extremely good chance we’ll see more of Patapon 2 in the coming months.
