Pachter chimes in on “Wii HD” rumors

by Karn Bianco on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:25 PM

PachterFollowing recent speculation that Nintendo is currently working on a high definition Wii for release “by 2009,” Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has expressed his support for the idea, revealing that he is “absolutely convinced” a “Wii HD” is in the works.

Pachter explained in a recent AFP news article article that he believes it is essential for Nintendo to overcome the Wii’s lacking hardware if the company truly wishes to fulfil its promise of a console for everybody, including core gamers — many of whom have been disappointed with the company’s focus on casual games as of late.

“Businesswise, they can’t have people saying that their machine is a toy for my mom,” said Pachter. “A Wii HD would really position Nintendo well, which is why I’m absolutely convinced there is a Wii HD coming.”

In the meantime, High Voltage Software has openly detailed its conviction to provide a “hardcore” experience for owners of the current Wii system. The Illinois-based developer is currently working on The Conduit, a futuristic first-person shooter slated for launch in March 2009.
