The latest news from TriForce Sales is a little bit creepy, and kind of delves into “obsessive super fan” territory. Epic Games has given TriForce permission to recreate life-size models of both armor and weapons from the Gears of War Xbox 360 and PC series. Yes, starting on July 8, 2008, loyal fans can preorder items at the official TriForce Gears of War website. No prices have been announced yet.
Prototypes of the armor and weapons were displayed at Wizard World Philadelphia, which was this past weekend (May 31, 2008). The items up for sale were displayed and a panel discussion with Garrand and Lester Speight (Gears of War‘s Augustus Cole) was held. The items will likely resemble the pictures of Garrand and the Nightmare Armor Studios team that appeared in a 2007 issue of Official Xbox 360 Magazine and on Kotaku on June 25, 2007.
So TriForce, with help from Nightmare Armor Studio’s Sid Garrand, will be creating 1:1 replicas of items worn by the Gears of War hero Marcus Fenix. A fake C.O.G. helmet, armor and Lancer Assault Rifle have been confirmed. Apparently Garrand is a fan of the original game, and he and the Nightmare Armor Studios team made suits of armor for themselves, which they then wore to conventions and Epic Games’ studios (as seen in the Official Xbox 360 Magazine image above). Both Epic Games and other fans loved how it turned out, and a year later TriForce’s project was born.
This all probably shouldn’t freak me out. I mean its just a costume and all. Except it looks like it would be really, really expensive and unnecessary. I can understand people going all out to dress up like a character, but this is too much.
