Opinion: Fable 2 on the PC is a smart business decision
Money’s tight. Even if people’s jobs are secure, they’re still cutting back. And then there are those who have been the casualties of cut backs. People aren’t going to be thinking about spending $200, $300 or $400 on a new console bundle, no matter how much they need an escape.
Fable II for the PC would be the smart thing to do. While people aren’t willing to spend an extravagent amount of money on a console, $40 for a game for a computer they already own could be an easier decision to make. It could even be considered a smart decision.
Fable II is a massive game that could take a player weeks, or even months to complete. Since it’s an open-ended title, it could even keep a player satisfied for years. People would be willing to invest in it, knowing that would not only provide an escape and stress relief, but would continue to do so for a substantial length of time.
For example, I only recently purchased the original Fable for PC in Janurary, 2009. I still haven’t completed the game. Instead, I take my time. It almost feels like The Sims 2 to me, a game I can pick up at any time and play for as long or as little as I’d like.
Lionhead Studios has repeatedly stated that it is not working on a PC port of Fable II. It’s disheartening news, to be sure. But, it isn’t that bad. Fable II came out October 21, 2008. Take a look back at the original Fable. The Xbox 360 version came out on September 14, 2004. The PC version, Fable: The Lost Chapters, wasn’t out until September 20, 2005. A Mac version wasn’t released until March 31, 2008. It took a year for a PC version of the original game, so those hoping for a Fable II port shouldn’t be exaspherated by the fact that the rumors of a February 2009 PC port didn’t come true.
Besides, a PC port of Fable II would not only make a legion of fans happy, it would make money for Microsoft and Lionhead Studios. As Forbes reported, the original Fable sold over two million copies, and on November 24, 2008 GameSpot ran a story stating that Fable II had already sold over 1.5 million copies.
For now, all we can do is wait. The first Fable II PC rumor proved false, and Lionhead Studios hasn’t announced a port project yet. If fans have faith and let the companies know what they want, perhaps we’ll see Fable II for the PC by October, 2009.

No point. The game has sold over 2.6 million as of March 09 and likely over 3 million by this point. Why waste their time with a port when they can move on to the next big thing for them. Not only that but MS can keep their 360 exclusives just that, exclusive. If anything I believe like Gears 2 MS will likely push for less and less ports for their 360 exclusives.
on June 19, 2009 at 01:13 PM - LINKwhy waste time porting it for PC , especially when pc gamers arent gonna pay 4 it & download it 4 free .i think epic , crytek, ea have all learned their lessons with UT3 , Crysis , Spore
on June 19, 2009 at 02:53 PM - LINKMicrosoft might be quite willing to overlook ther exclusivity issue considering come October they have to sell the next version of windows. most of microsofts money, which grrrr is then thrown into 360 development comes from windows and pc applications such as windows and MS office, most is from business sales sure but i’m sure gamers ignoring Vista like the plague didnt healthen Microsofts checkbook, Microsofts Direct X10 was ignored they need money from pc cards using the next windows direct X 11, its in their interest to support the next windows properly. wouldnt be surprised if gears 2 and fable 2 come out exclusively for that version of windows. Fable 2 especially once all the DLC is finished with since lionhead have still have a like for the PC platform. then again i’ve been dissapointed before, when console producers such as konami and Capcom support Windows better than its own manufactorer does, somethings wrong.
Flintoff, thats bollocks, I agree its no longer feasable to produce soley for the Pc, but to ignore it, no. piracy is ripe on pc sure but after considering online sales from steam and such their better than they used to be, plus online gaming is still popular on pc. UT3 and crysis still have an online pc presence. plus i’m sure Ea’s mind will be changed once they calcuilate sims 3 ‘s sale figures.
on June 19, 2009 at 05:36 PM - LINKFable 2 for PC would be a great idea. Anyone who has played the game knows the Xbox 360 struggles to render the game all the way through, meaning one is playing much of the game at about 20 frames per second with less than stellar graphics. A modern gaming PC would be able to give true justice to this ambitious game, and improve it 100% from the clunky disappointment it is now on Xbox 360.
on July 1, 2009 at 04:10 AM - LINKi think there will be a PC version , we just have to wait , they want to compile the original xbox game and the DLC to create an improved version , just like they did before , they transformed fable (xbox) in fable : the lost chapters(PC) witch had the DLC’s included. Also they will release fable 2 for PC when their budget will run low. It’s impossible not to release a pc version since microsoft owns the company.
