Open letter to Square Enix: Thanks for The After Years, now let’s see Before Crisis
Hi Square-Enix,
How’ve you been? Eidos take-over going well? I can’t wait to see Lara Croft in Kingdom Hearts.
Listen, I really want to thank you for the forthcoming Wii version of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Really. I never buy cell phone games and don’t own an iPhone, so I was worried that you’d have put it on one of those portable systems and I’d never get to play it.
But you came through like a champ - choosing to release all of the episodes/chapters/segments of Final Fantasy IV: The After: Tsuki no Kikan on the Wii. I can’t wait to see what adventures Cecil and Rosa’s son Ceodore will get into, why the second Lunarian Moon is appearing in the sky again and how he, the new heroes and the returning heroes will once again save the world.
Rest assured - it’s a day-one purchase for me.
But - there’s always a “but” - I’m still troubled. Perplexed even.
Where’s a localized version of Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII?
Yup, I’m talking about the cell phone Final Fantasy VII prequel starring the Shin-Ra Turks. Let’s bundle it all up together, release it on Wiiware as well and see a lot of happy FFVII fans go crazy. Or you could put it all on a DS cartridge too. I don’t want to stifle your creative impulses or anything.
I mean, we all know it exists. After all, Cissnei from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, also known as Shuriken (Female) by Before Crisis fans, has already made her debut outside of Japan.
The Turks have become beloved anti-heroes, and even heroes in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. People would love the opportunity to take on Turks missions, going up against the original AVALANCHE group. Plus, we’d get a new chance to see the Final Fantasy VII characters before the original game and learn more about the mysterious Turks themselves.
You already teased us back in 2005, claiming that we’d see Before Crisis on cell phones by 2006. Don’t worry. No need to apologize. We’ve gotten over that, and no use reopening old wounds.
Instead, let’s make things right. Let’s see Before Crisis on the DS or Wii by 2010. Okay? Okay.
All the best,
Jenni
P.S. Don’t release Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII on the DSi. I don’t want to spend $169.99 on a slightly-tweaked version of a system I already own.
