One million Chinese gamers simultaneously logged in to World of Warcraft

by Pulkit Chandna on Apr 13, 2008 at 09:12 AM

gamertell world of warcraft logo The Chinese operator of World of Warcraft, The9, has announced that the game recently reached a peak concurrency of 1 million players in China, meaning there were a million Chinese players logged into the game at the same time. This is the toughest test for WOW servers in China to date and, lucky for gamers, they passed - most likely because they aren’t Made in China (pun definitely intended).

This happens to be the highest concurrency ever since the MMORPG first made its commercial debut in 2005. It wasn’t just a coincident that 1 million Chinese gamers played WOW at the very same time but, according to The9, the recent launch of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade in China has spawned renewed interest in the game.

World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade is the first expansion pack for the game that was released in January, 2007 in Europe and North America, but Chinese gamers had to wait till September 6, 2007 for it. Not only are the existing WOW subscribers in China taking keener interest in the game since the launch of Burning Crusade, but a huge number of fresh gamers are signing up.

Gamertell salutes the spirit of China’s gamers and tenacious gold farmers alike for accomplishing this wonderful feat.
