Video games have changed the way we sing and dance, and perhaps for this reason the folks behind the reality series “So You Think You Can Dance” organized a huge video game dancing event. A hundred dancers simultaneously got down on dance pads from the popular dancing game Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 May 19, 2008, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angles, CA.

When they were through with their dancing session groovin’ to “Funky House” by DJ Diod and “Progressive Mix” by DJ Hill for 9 minutes and 28 seconds, they had set a new record for the largest simultaneous dance mat routine. The dancers have a lot to brag about as the record will get a mention in the next edition of the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition.

The event had So You Think You Can Dance‘s anchor, Cat Deeley, as its host, while some of the participants from the reality show were also in attendance. One lucky dancer was showered with prizes including a game console, a dance video game and mat and a 23 in. LCD flat screen TV.

There have been many such record-setting events in recent times to promote the first edition of Guinness World Records: Gamers’ Edition, which was launched earlier this year. Even I have buckled up to break the record for the worst boxing simulation game player. Actually I already own the record –  I just need official confirmation. I have the worst Fight Night record amongst all my friends who, unfortunately enough, not only love to play the game but also repeatedly remind me of my limited boxing game skills.
