NPD numbers released for June 2007

by Danielle Riendeau on Jul 24, 2007 at 09:02 AM

Mario Party 8 Box The NPD group (an independent consumer research firm) just released the official sales numbers for videogame hardware and software in June 2007. Overall, results are unsurprising, reflecting increased sales on nearly every platform, and Nintendo’s continued success with the Wii and DS systems.

The Nintendo DS continues to dominate over all hardware sales, with 561,000 units. The Wii follows at 381,800, with the PSP moving 290,100 units, Xbox 360 selling 198,400 and the PS3 bringing up the rear with 98,500. Of course, this reflects the pre-PS3 price drop.

On the software side, Nintendo’s dominance continues to be a force in the industry. Mario Party 8 rules the list at 426,200, with Wii Play, both DS Pokemon titles, and Forza Motorsport 2 for the 360 rounding out the top five. Further down the list, the Guitar Hero series is still doing quite well and the aging PS2 is going strong with respectable showings from franchise titles (Guitar Hero, Tomb Raider, Naruto, MLB 07, etc.).
