Surely nothing could beat peanut butter and jelly, you say? Well, those crazy kids at Omega Force have decided that the snack-time favorite of young kids the world over has had its reign, and now it must die. And what better way to kill it than with a two-story battle machine armed with a laser sword? Say your prayers, PB&J…your time has come.
This new joint venture by Koei and Namco Bandai is slated for a US release late this summer (2007) and, judging by the screenshots, it’s literally going to be what the title describes it as: A combination of the Dynasty Warriors hack ‘n’ slash goodness that we’ve all come to know and love only this time, instead of human characters, you’ll be piloting giant orbital frames. Think giant robot or Z.O.E and you’ll probably do all right.
All in all, this was a great idea waiting to happen. This probably isn’t going to be a genre-buster (as I said, it looks a bit Z.O.E.-ish) but I’m betting it’s going to be a big seller. The real question will be whether or not the game suffers because of the bureaucratic tomfoolery that can sometimes occur when media giants conglomerate.
I’m trying to imagine what that board meeting must have sounded like (
<-- insert our own dream state sound effect here):
Koei: “Hey, we should make a game together.” Namco Bandai: “Yeah that sounds like a great idea!” Koei: “You bring the Dynasty Warriors and I’ll bring the Gundam. Sound good?” Namco Bandai: “Brilliant!”
Then again, this is Omega Force we’re talking about here. These guys don’t exactly take the short bus to work. If Samurai Warriors 2 was a decent measure, we’ll be having a pretty good time in space later this summer.
