Norton AntiVirus 2009 Gaming Edition promises to be less intrusive

by Jessica Moen on Nov 10, 2008 at 02:26 PM

NortonHave you tried to play a computer game, while your brother is trying to download some music and the system is running the weekly virus update? It’s not an easy task. In fact, it’s usually a very frustrating task.

Symantec knows just how you feel, which is why the company is releasing Norton AntiVirus 2009 Gaming Edition. It will be designed specifically for gaming, which we all know takes up the most memory on the system. It keeps malware at bay while also making sure nothing is interrupted or lost during your MMO game play.

Nothing is worse then finally reaching your enemy’s base, only to have the screen minimize and a pop-up ask you if you would like to update your system now. The gamer-targeted Norton comes equipped with a special Gamer Mode that will keep your computer protected and promises never interrupt you during game play to ask you annoying questions. Instead, it will wait till the system is idle to perform any required maintenance, which you can also schedule yourself.

Plus, you still get the award-winning, industry-leading protection you can expect from Norton. Protection includes viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans, bots and web sites that may have a virus. Security is customizable so you can set it to the protection and performance level that you want, while promising to use 80% less memory than other anti virus apps.

This program is a must-have for the PC Gamer, especially if you are a multi-tasker or live in a family who all must use the computer at the same time. It’s also a perfect gift idea right in time for the holidays.

Since this product has not been released yet and a release date has not been set, there is no further information available. As soon as the information becomes available we will be sure to update.

Now Norton has a feature that other programs like BitDefender have had for a while now, but still has the same crappy antivirus protection that works about as well at protecting your PC against viruses and spyware as a dead weight does at flying!

    YAY. [/sarcasm]

Hmm. Is this site sponsored by Symantec or something? I found this through a Google search and wanted to find out about the product. Instead I feel like I just read a Symantec press release.

Even though Jessica writes “this product has not been released yet and a release date has not been set, there is no further information available” she writes before this “This program is a must-have for the PC Gamer, especially if you are a multi-tasker or live in a family who all must use the computer at the same time. It’s also a perfect gift idea right in time for the holidays.”
How exactly can you recommend a product which you have never seen, tried, or gotten any 3rd party or anecdotal feedback.” Let me guess. As soon as it is available there will be an affiliate link to the product here.

As the previous comment states, you can get a solution called GameSafe from BitDefender now as well as products from several other companies that have a game mode. As ususal Symantec is a follower not a leader in security, but they have a lot of marketing money to throw around.
