Nintendo to launch official DS Vision card in Japan
Nintendo, with it’s partners Dai Nippon and AM3, is looking to make downloadable content for the DS a reality in Japan in 2008. The DS Vision package will be available in Japan hopefully by March 8, 2008. AM3 and Dai Nippon will have 300 different items available for download on the day the product is launched.
The introductory DS package comes with a slot-1 card, a 512MB microSD card which can fit inside of it and a USB microSD card reader. The DS Vision will allow users to download music, movies, comics and books. It has not yet been revealed if games will be made available for download. Prices have also not yet been set for the downloadable content. Initial reports state that the DS Vision will cost ¥3,980, or roughly $39.
So it looks like DS Vision will be the portable version of the Wii’s Virtual Console. At least, if Nintendo is smart then it will be. The DS Vision, if you’ll notice, looks remarkably similar to the R4 DS chip which Gamertell reported on earlier. This will probably give Nintendo assistance in getting legal help to wipe out the piracy threat.
