Nintendo announces Wii Zapper

Wii Zapper
At Nintendo’s E3 press conference today (July 11, 2007), Reggie Fils-Aime showed off the new Wii Zapper for the first time ever. The Zapper is a housing for the Wii remote and nunchuk that resembles a sort of submachine gun, with the remote shaping the barrel and the nunchuk forming the back handle. It will be bundled with a yet-unannounced piece of Nintendo developed software for $19.99.

Titles shown off for the new peripheral include Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, a stealthy shooter called Ghost Squad, and an upcoming Medal of Honor title.

There’s no word yet on the rumored Wii Duck Hunt, unless that’s the mysterious pack-in title. Either way, this is a nice old-school nod (to the original NES Zapper, and even the SNES Super Scope 6), and as Nintendo president Iwata commented later on in the conference, a good way to bridge casual and hardcore gamers.
