Today (July 11, 2007) at the company’s E3 press conference, Nintendo announced new peripherals for the Wii, including the Wii Zapper, Wii Wheel, and Wii Balance Board, along with the brand new titles designed around them.

The Zapper uses both the nunchuck and Wii-mote, and was designed for use with the upcoming Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad and a new Medal of Honor title. Reggie announced that the zapper will be packed in with software with a MSRP of $19.99.

Reggie and Wii Wheel The Wii Wheel will be packed in with the new Mario Kart title, which will also feature full online multiplayer modes (both racing and battle), to be released in the first quarter of 2008.

Balance Board
Wii Fitness (Nintendo’s biggest surprise title) comes with the weight and pressure-sensing “balance board”, and features exercises and minigames in four categories: Aerobics, muscle conditioning, balance games, and yoga positions.

These announcements are all keeping with Nintendo’s dedication to new, innovative control schemes and the integration of casual and hardcore gameplay. Though some gamers won’t be thrilled with the idea of a fitness game, no one can deny the coolness of the Zapper and the excitement of a new, fully online-enabled Mario Kart.
