Yuke’s Company of America, a subsidiary of Yuke’s Company Limited, makers of the WWE SmackDown! series, today (July 25, 2007) announced the development of a new puzzle title for the DS called Neves. The game has players aligning pieces to build 2D pictures, with each puzzle featuring seven wooden blocks that need to be tilted, flipped, and moved into the correct positions on the board. Think an expanded version of Big Brain Academy’s “get in shape” minigame.
The puzzles range in complexity from simple silhouettes of keys and swords to more complicated figures like horses and birds. The title boasts more than 500 different puzzles and four modes of play, including standard puzzle mode, count mode, time mode and versus play.
The DS has quickly become the puzzle platform of choice with heavy hitters Meteos, Puzzle Quest and Planet Puzzle League leading the pack. No release date has been named for the new title, which will have to be quite strong to stand a chance against the competition. At the very least Neves (actually “seven” spelled backwards) isn’t another falling block clone.
