You can’t make this stuff up - according to a post at GameLife, NASA is building a new mmo to teach technology and rocket science. The agency has issued a formal Request For Information in order to secure interested technology firms to help build the new learning tool. The virtual world will be used as a “persistent immersive synthetic environment” for teaching everything from complex chemistry to how to make repairs in microgravity.
It doesn’t matter how nerdy it sounds - an mmo built by NASA incorporating real science is awesome. While it’s not exactly clear from the request what the intended audience might be (GameLife writer Earnest Cavalli wonders whether it’ll be for school kids or astronaut trainees), its great to see NASA back on the cutting edge of technology. Or close to it.
