MTV Multiplayer takes a break

Today, game journalist extraordinaire Stephen Totilo ended his final day at MTV Multiplayer with an announcement that the blog will be going on hiatus for the time being. Tracey John, Multiplayer’s other writer, will be moving on as well.
From the post:
“Because April 24 is my last day, and because our search for the best team to continue Multiplayer is underway but not yet complete, we’re putting the blog on hiatus.
MTV has had a fierce commitment to video games for years. Look for it to continue. I’ve worked with the company these last two weeks to point Multiplayer toward a bright future and I’m excited about the possibilities. Give the blog a couple of weeks… and join me in anticipating its return.”
Damn… I know it’ll be back, but it won’t be the same without Stephen and Tracey and Patrick. The site has always held a prominent place in my bookmarks bar, and has always been one of the best gaming blogs (aside from gamertell, of course!) out there. In the increasingly “me-too” echo chamber of game sites, Multiplayer had a lot of truly original content, and they broke a whole hell of a lot of news too. Perhaps best of all, the interviews they conducted were peerless - truly entertaining and informative without relying on a layer of cynicism or snark that so many other outlets seem to bask in.
Best of luck to Totilo and John, and here’s hoping that the new team at MTV can put out the same quality of work.

Is it confirmed that Tracy John left too? I thought it was just Totilo…I’ll be even more bummed if she’s moved on too. It’s so disappointing that he left Multiplayer for Kotaku of all places. Nothing could compel me to follow his work there. :-(
