A lot of industry watchers were skeptical when Sony opted for the proprietary Universal Media Disc (UMD) as the PSP’s exclusive media storage format. And, as it later turned out, there doubts were not unfounded as Sony’s choice of format didn’t really go down well with the gamers for various reasons. However, a major factor for UMD’s notoriety was Sony’s inability to provide enough games and media for the PSP. But the company is certainly rectifying its follies by making more content available, and now popular MTV programming will be available on the UMD.
The impressive lineup of MTV content that is available now across North American game stores includes Beavis & Butt-head: The Mike Judge Collection Vol. 2 and Vol. 3; Jackass Vol. 2 and Vol. 3; Wildboyz Vol. 1 and Vol. 2; Viva La Bam Vol. 2, Vol. 3 and Vol. 4; and Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection. With each of them priced at $14.99, PSP owners might not be intimidated by the price either.
Sony had promised the gamers that the PSP would be a comprehensive media device and UMD a revolutionary media storage format. But it certainly hasn’t quite fulfilled its own promise, though it is finally making an effort to provide more quality media content now.
