More on MAG the self-proclaimed “massive action game”
Sony and Zipper Interactive revealed a new online game to add to their repertoire. The game is MAG, short for “Massive Action Game” and massive is no joke.
MAG supports up to 256 players in one game at one time, putting a bit of stress on even the PS3’s harware. This allows for full campaigns that could will make a long-running shooter experience.
At E3, Andy Beaudoin (Lead Designer for Zipper Interactive) introduced the game and gave some details before showing a trailer of the game. He said they wanted to build on the success Sony had with the SOCOM series. The biggest difference will be that of scale. Due to the sheer amount of people who are able to play at one time maps and buildings have to be big enough to support massive military operations.
Beaudoin admitted that with the sheer amount of people they would need to put some order in the potential chaos. Each team will be broken into eight-player squads lead by players who have proven themselves to be good leaders. It takes the tactical, squad-based shooter in a new direction by putting it in a defined massively scaled battle.
Soldiers can be fine tuned with the character/skill growth tree to make your soldier more proficient for the way you and your squad plays. There will also be squad, faction and world missions to be undertaken so it would be best if players got into the game daily since the game will be an ongoing campaign.
The game will be a PS3 exclusive and here’s the E3 video in all its glroy:
