The Secret of Monkey Island got a special edition reimagining, so it seems only fair that Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge gets the same treatment. Fortunately, LucasArts is happy to oblige, and has just announced Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge for the iPhone, iPod Touch, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. There’s no definite release date yet, but it has a Summer 2010 release window.
Like The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will be an updated and enhanced version of the original point-and-click adventure game featuring more of Guybrush Threepwood’s quest to become the best pirate. There’ll be full voice acting, the ability to control Guybrush and not use point-and-click controls, an object hint system, audio commentary, voice acting and, of course, remastered and enhanced graphics and music.
If you haven’t played Monkey Island 2 before (for shame), here’s the general plot. Guybrush wants to be the best pirate of all time, and figures that a good way to earn that title would be to get the treasure of Big Whoop. The only problem is, LeChuck’s cronie Largo has used LeChuck’s beard to ressurrect him (Guybrush killed him in The Secret of Monkey Island). So Guybrush has to get the Big Whoop treasure before LeChuck.
I wonder if this means a special edition of The Curse of Monkey Island is imminent as well.
