In what can best be describe as, a event that can only take place in a video game, Midway released the surprising video of a game that very few people could have ever thought possible, that being, DC comics vs Mortal Kombat.
In a teaser trailer released by Midway Games, which states that the fighting game will be out sometime this fall, we get to see two of DC and Mortal Kombat’s iconic anti-heroes battling one another in a graveyard - those heroes being Batman and Subzero.
There is no clear advantage seen between the two heroes, as both give as well as they take, much like in the 1990’s arcade classic Marvel vs Capcom, fans will get the chance to pit their favorite DC and Mortal Kombat characters in a battle to the death.
While Mortal Kombat has lost much of its luster over the years and DC hasn’t ever really had a noteworthy game under their belt, the two companies are banking on a strong fan following to bring back the classic series to its former glory and show that DC’s heroes are more than costume wearing phonies who pull their punches.
“Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide, and unlikely alliances to be forged,” Midway’s press release reads. “In order to save all they know, the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat must wage war against the combined might of the DC Universe.”
There hasn’t been much details revealed on how these two completely different universes are going to collide this fall, but it is clear that Midway is interested in brining a real story and explanation as to why and how the Mortal Kombat and DC universes will mix. Details too are sketchy on what or how many characters from either universe will make appearances in the game, but aside from the short video that showcased Batman vs Subzero, Superman has also been confirmed. But who in the Mortal Kombat universe can actually stand toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel? Come this fall, my money is on DC to overcome MK.
