Nintendo has launched a crusade against video-game piracy around the world, working closely with local authorities in piracy hotbeds. Nintendo’s anti-piracy activism has accounted for millions of seized counterfeit Nintendo products. However, it is interested in fighting all types of piracy, it seems, and has been cooperating with Pokemon USA to stall the production and sale of fake Pokemon trading cards.

The Nintendo-backed initiative has led to the seizure of 47 million fake Pokemon trading cards at illegal production facilities in China, Thailand, Singapore, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, and Australia. A raid on seven stores in New York on March 26, 2008, also yielded thousands of counterfeit cards. This confirms that piracy knows no bounds and is widespread even outside the regions that are much maligned for it.

China, once again, towered above every other country as a piracy-haven as 26 million fake cards were confiscated and destroyed last year. But the production continues unabated with 1.2 million such cards having been seized there in the first few months of 2008. Nintendo deserves a standing ovation for its efforts as video game pirates are directly or indirectly hand in gloves with vicious crime and terror syndicates.
