Milestone: Nine million copies of Call of Duty 4 sold

by Christopher Buckner on Apr 19, 2008 at 06:48 PM

call of duty 4Since its November 2007 release, Activision’s and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has steamrolled competitors both on- and off-line. Already knocking Halo 3 from the top spot on Xbox Live for the past three month, COD4’s international success has resulted in more than 9 million units sold so far.

That is a sales feat most game companies can only hope to reach and, for some, it might take years to accomplish. Last week, fans had more reasons to go out and pick up another copy of Call of Duty 4 with the release of the Game of the Year Edition ($59.99), which features four new multiplayer maps. These maps can also be downloaded via Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Released two week ago, more than one million downloads of the Varity Map Pack have already been downloaded. PS3 user, not to be left, out will get their chance to get the new multiplayer maps on April 24, 2008, through download on the PlayStation Network for the same $10 price tag, which will no doubt push sales beyond even Activision or Infinity Ward’s expectations.
