Midway Games opens duo of digital distribution sites

by Jeremy Hill on Jul 12, 2008 at 01:05 PM

Midway Games LogoMidway Games is offering a remedy for anyone who has a hankering to play classic titles. Instead of going through the hassle of trying to track down games, most can now be found on Midway’s two new digital distribution stores. These stores will house titles that were released in the Arcade as well as PC games and even Midways collection of touchscreen projects.

Midway Arcade is the site to go to in order to get your retro fix. The large catalog of games include such classics as Joust, Defender, Spy Hunter, and Mahki. There are still over twenty additional titles to choose from. Midway Arcade focuses on reviving popular games from the past that could appeal to casual gamers today.

The games will be priced in bundles instead of individually. For instance, if you wanted to purchase three games from the store it would cost $5 for the lot. Seven games will go for $10, and the entire 14 game collection from Midway Arcade will be $15. If you’re more inclined to check out Midway’s Touchmaster games instead, those titles sell for $5 each. It doesn’t look like these games will be available in bundles like the Arcade titles.

Midway’s second online store caters to some of their more recent releases. Straight from Midway’s official site comes several games that can be purchased and played immediately on PC. They range in price from $10 to $30 and include such games as Unreal Tournament 3, Stranglehold, and Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.

Living in the past is no longer a bad thing given the slew of titles Midway is offering. Just hearing the Spyhunter theme in all its 8-bit glory is worth the price of admission.
