Microsoft wants to help free your Xbox avatar

Free Your Avatar
Microsoft is thinking of ways to implement avatars into our normal everyday stuff outside of Xbox Live. It’s latest effort, called Free Your Avatar, is available right now from Xbox.com and helps to show off your avatar all over the web.

This new service lets you take your avatar (or select one if you haven’t created an avatar) and place it into greeting cards, wallpaper and screensavers. The whole process is very user friendly and only takes a few minutes to complete.

You don’t have to sign into your account before you begin. Just type in your gamertag and Microsoft’s vast array of supercomputers does all the fetching for you. From there you can choose where to position your avatar on some of the preset backgrounds. You can also change the size of the picture to cater to your specific needs as well.

The backgrounds are mostly holiday oriented although there is one with fireworks shooting off in the background that’s pretty neat. You can enter some text if you want in 3 different preset fonts and export the image as a JPEG file when you’re done.
