Microsoft dropping Xbox 360 retail price in Europe

by Christopher Buckner on Mar 11, 2008 at 01:19 PM

microsoft xbox 360 price dropsMicrosoft is looking to taking a bigger chunk out of the European market by dropping the price of 360 consoles in the United Kingdom by this Friday, March 14, 2008.

Microsoft has announced an all-systems price reduction for its Xbox 360 models in the UK. The Arcade and Elite units will knock off some $80 (US), making the console now $322 for the Arcade version and $524 for the Elite. The standard 360 will drop by an outstanding $100 bucks brining it to $403.

The Xbox 360 is most European gamers choice when it comes to consoles ownership. Microsoft claims to have a 42% of sales and the highest game’s purchased per system sold with around 7games for European gamers. Sony has 3.8 games per unit sold and the Wii has 3.5.

With this price reduction in Europe, Microsoft is hoping it will put more pressure on its competitors, including as Sony who is less than likely to make a willing price drop on the PlayStation 3.

We understand that European gamers can feel left out of the gaming wars, so let’s hope this helps them feel at least a little more love.
