Microsoft has finally fessed up to one of the worst kept secrets of the summer. After seeing ads and SKU inquiries hinting at the possibility of lower prices, it’s about time the rumors are put to rest.
Starting September 5, 2008, Microsoft will drop the prices on all versions of the Xbox 360. The Arcade price will be $199, $299 for the Pro console, and $399 for the Elite. Keep in mind the Pro console price drop includes the recently released 60GB model so take a good look at the box before getting it rung up at the counter. This officially makes the Xbox 360 the cheapest of all current-gen consoles.
These dates and prices are only for North America at the moment but I won’t be surprised if a similar announcement was made soon for Europe and Australia in the near future.
