Microsoft brings E3 2007 to your home through Xbox Live

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 6, 2007 at 03:03 PM

Gamertell Microsoft Xblox Live Logo Microsoft is once again offering Xbox Live members a chance to check out exclusive E3 2007 content and through the Xbox Live service. The service is titled “E3: Bringing It Home,” not to be confused with Sony’s “Playstation Home” service coming out later this year for the PS3.

E3 content will be available beginning July 10-13, 2007, in both standard definition and HD, downloadable through Xbox Live’s Marketplace. The majority of the content will be game trailers by companies releasing Xbox 360 games including a few Microsoft Game Studios projects.

According to Microsoft’s press release, the available content will include:

  • Microsoft’s E3 2007 press conference — beginning at 8:30 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, July 10 — will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace in high definition later in the week
  • Video updates direct from the show
  • A selection of game trailers, themes, gamer pictures and demos will be available from the hottest E3 titles such as these:
    • Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.)
    • Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft)
    • BioShock (2K)
    • Blue Dragon (Microsoft Game Studios)
    • Burnout Paradise (Electronic Arts Inc.)
    • CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE (Activision)
    • FIFA Soccer 08 (Electronic Arts)
    • Guitar Hero III (Activision/RedOctane)
    • Lost Odyssey (Microsoft Game Studios)
    • Madden NFL 08 (Electronic Arts)
    • NCAA Football 08 (Electronic Arts)
    • Need for Speed: ProStreet (Electronic Arts)
    • Project Gotham Racing 4 (Microsoft Game Studios)
    • The Simpsons Game (Electronic Arts)
    • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (Electronic Arts)
    • WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 (THQ)
  • “Many surprises.” Stay tuned to the Xbox LIVE calendar for updates for content available during the show.

I’m guessing some of the “many surprises” will be game demos. Otherwise, game trailers are nothing new for Xbox Live or even PS3. After all, they are free advertising for the game companies and help generate addition buzz about the products.

What I really want to see announced is a list of the the exclusive Xbox Live downloadable games for 2007-2008. This type of exclusive content will be the real money maker for the big three systems in the next few years. Nintendo already does a great job promoting its Virtual Arcade with weekly classic game updates and PS3 is getting into exclusive - free! - games. While Xbox Live is still the best download service, Microsoft really needs to generate more buzz about its truly unique content.
