Microsoft announces SceneIt for Xbox 360 and new controller

One of the more interesting announcements from last night’s (July 11, 2007) press conference and the first from Jeff Bell (corporate VP of global marketing) was the news that SceneIt?, the popular DVD trivia game, will be making an appearance on Xbox360. According to Bell the game is “being designed from the ground up” to run on Microsoft’s game console and it’ll also ship with a wireless, buzzer-like handheld.

Bell is no fool and he’s clearly concerned about the effect that Nintendo’s Wii is having on breaking down the barriers in terms of potential target audiences. Microsoft has already done a fairly decent job of playing catch-up in terms of enticing the casual gamer with low impact arcade classics and other family oriented titles. Hardcore gamers won’t likely flock to the new trivia genre, but if they happen to stop by and there’s a Harry Potter edition I’ll be glad to give them a run for their money. Go ahead, ask me a question… I dare you.
