Microsoct cuts price of the XBox 360 external HD-DVD drive

by Joshua Mallory on Jul 26, 2007 at 11:16 PM

XBox 360 HD-DVD Starting August 1, 2007, the MSRP of the 360 HD-DVD expansion player will be reduced from $199 to $179.  In addition, Toshiba will be giving away five free movies through September 2007 with every purchase.  The five movies will be selectable from a roster of fifteen HD-DVD titles.

Finally, the pilot episode of Heroes will be available for download on XBox Live, and starting August 14, 2007, the HD version of the movie 300 will also be available on demand.  Not coincidentally, both Heroes and 300 will soon be released on HD-DVD. The pricing good news was announced at Comic-Con International 2007, however, only the US price has changed.

The XBox 360 HD-DVD is an external, USB device that works as a movie player on the PC and the Mac.  Although some people claim you need drivers, others don’t

Having neither an XBox 360 nor its HD-DVD player yet, I’m not sure who to believe since the player does nothing for the XBox but play movies and works just as well as a player for your PC.
