As a long-time fan of both, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a new X-Men and Iron Man cartoon series for quite some time. Both have already had their time in the sun in the form of animated series in the past decade.
The original 1990’s X-Men cartoon series, which aired on Fox, has widely been considered by many fans as one of the 10 best animated series. Early 2000, after the release of the first X-Men movie, X-Men Evolution followed first film’s story and concentrated on a younger audience.
Iron Man hasn’t been so lucky when it comes to his own animated series. Part of the Marvel Action Hour in the mid-‘90s Shell-head’s own series was anything but stellar, at least for its first season which was little more then a bad translation of the terrible Force Works comic book. The second and last season did a better job as it centered mainly on Iron Man and features more villains than just the Mondrian.
In Summer 2008, Iron Man will get his first live-action feature film, which has already become the most anticipated summer feature and looks as if it just might be the best Marvel film to date.
As for the two upcoming series, the X-Men series will be titled: Wolverine & the X-Men, as the series is looking to cash in on the most popular X-Men of them all, Wolverine, who will also be getting his own solo movie due to be released either late this year or early 2009.
From the promotional poster released by Marvel it looks like the feature characters will be Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, White Queen, Beast, Rogue and Nightcrawler. From the previews a number of other X-Men will be joining too including Kitty, Angel and Iceman. (Looks like I am never going to see Psylocke in a staring role)
As for Iron Man it will simply be titled, Iron Man: The Animated Series.
So far from the clips we’ve provided below, the animation and theme for Wolverine & the X-Men seems pretty good, despite the fact that its is going to be aired on a network for children. Let’s hope Iron Man ‘s own animated series looks as promising.
