Mark Wahlberg to play Max Payne
According to Variety (and numerous Hollywood sources), oscar-Nominated actor Mark Wahlberg has signed on to play the title role in 20th Century Fox’s adaptation of Max Payne.
Dark Horizons summarizes the news best:
“Mark Wahlberg has signed on for 20th Century Fox’s “Max Payne,” a live-action adaptation of the bestselling Rockstar video game reports the trades.
Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders.
He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects. Beau Thorne penned the script.
Shooting will begin early next year under the helm of John Moore (“Behind Enemy Lines,” “The Omen”).”
Remember Max Payne (well- known as the game that made bullet-time an essential feature in action games)? Wahlberg will make a fine Payne, and as long as Moore keeps the feel close to the hard-boiled game. The artist formerly known as Marky Mark has more than proven his chops as an action star (take a look at The Departed or Three Kings), so there are no worries there.
