New Yorkers are so lucky. Mario Kart Wii comes out April 27, 2008, and Nintendo is giving New Yorkers free cab rides to promote the game. If you live in New York, New York, stop by the Sheraton Hotel at 811 7th Avenue.

On April 24, 2008, there will be such a thing as a free ride, if your timing’s right. From 8~10am and 12~2pm, people can line up for a free ride that Mario will thumb down for you. I’m guessing there will be Mario Kart Wii decorations and videos as well. Of course nothing compares to the mental picture of some poor person in a full Mario costume flagging down cabs.

I have to wonder if there is a catch. The press release just mentions “free rides,” but doesn’t provide any specifics. Will there be any limits on the rides? Will Nintendo only cover rides to certain locations or that fall within a certain price range? If Nintendo is going to cover any cab ride to any place in New York for people willing to wait in line at the Sheraton Hotel, that’s really a sweet deal.
