Man hacks Chrono Trigger to propose to girlfriend

Guys using videogames to propose to their girlfriends is nothing new but this story officially raises the bar for nerdy romantics everywhere. 1UP is reporting that a man on YouTube, who goes by the username “TheRealPfhreak,” recently decided to use the Square-Enix classic Chrono Trigger as the vehicle for his marriage proposal.
Only he didn’t just hack the game to make it display a special message but created an entire new area in the game for his girlfriend to explore, filled with references to their memories together. Said the groom-to-be:
“On October 17, 2008, I proposed to my (now) fiance. Originally I wanted to return to the site of our first date, Mount Baker, near Bellingham, Washington. Sadly, there was no discrete way to get her out there. So I turned to the next best thing, digitally recreating the mountain!
But why stop there? I figured I’d try and recreate many of our other favorite memories - stargazing, dancing, even her favorite song lyrics (from the Princess Bride). I’m a college student who is studying Computer Science, and I wanted to do something unique that used my talents, so I did some research on rom hacking, as she was playing through Chrono Trigger.”
He goes on to say that his girlfriend didn’t know what to make of all the strange coincidences at first. That is, up until the end of the secret area when a character in the game pops the question addressing his girlfriend’s full name. For those wondering, she did say “yes,” although only after calling her boyfriend a “huge nerd.”

Awww. That is cute. Incredibly nerdy but to each their own.

Bums me out the original developers can’t gather in the same room and make the next rendition. Hell who knows, maybe this guy can make a ROM that includes complete new levels for us ALL to enjoy. Until then, I will keep messing with game cheats to make Chrono feel new again!
