Following the success of the LEGO Star Wars games, which have so far sold more than 5.5 million copies, Warner Bros. and TT Games are planning to produce LEGO Batman: The Videogame. It looks like it’ll be based more on the original TV series than any of the films, though no official word on that or the release date (likely some time in 2008) has been given.
Let’s hope this doesn’t go too far and completely water down the novelty, washing away all the fun just to tack on the LEGO name. It’s already happening with the Mr. Potato Head tie-in toys which took off with Darth Tater, followed by several other Star Wars characters and now a Spider-man version.
Part of the draw of the LEGO Star Wars games was that they had a series of really cool, real world toys to base it on as well as some good movies (no matter how you feel about Jar Jar Binks and the singing Ewoks… and that would make a great band name). Luckily, LEGO has been making Batman toys for a while, too.
