My latest cross stitch was a request from one of my best friends. She’s a Legend of Zelda fan, so she asked if I could make a Link for her. This was the result. It is Link, accompanied by a little Navi. (If you’re a Phantom Hourglass fan, you can pretend that it is Ciela.)
To create Link, I used a The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past sprite from Sprite Database. I didn’t like how the sprite originally looked, so I modified it a bit. This is most evident in the facial features of Link. As for the fairy, I looked online for images of Navi, specifically at VG Cats installments, and did a small little fairy freehand.
Link and Navi took me about two to three hours. (I really should start keeping track.) In making this piece I used two shades of yellow, two shades of gray, two shades of peach, two shades of blue (trust me - you can’t see it in the picture, but it is there), two shades of green, maroon, brown, white and black embroidery floss. It was a little daunting trying to scrape together all of those colors, but I think it worked out well.
Link and Navi are my third cross stitch piece so far. Previously I have made angel Kirby and two characters from Little Nemo: The Dream Master. For my next piece, I will likely create a Burgertime scene, since my mom said she’d like one. After that, I might try a more complicated PS1 sprite. If you’re interested in learning how to make a video game cross stitch, go back and read this previous Gamertell article.
