A new casual/puzzle/platforming game has just been released on the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch - Rock’n'Roll. The object is simple, get through a maze, collecting items and then finding your way out. Its the latest title from Tag Games. If you’re interested, its only $4.99 for the 16.2mb game, and it is rated 9+.
Unfortunately, it seems there may be a problem with Rock’n'Roll. So far, as of 11:28am CST on September 29, 2008, it has two one star reviews. Both reviews claim that the game crashes on them. Hopefully these are isolated incidents.
As for gameplay, Rock’n'Roll seems a bit similar to both Super Monkey Ball, LocoRoco, Marble Madness and those wooden labyrinth games. You guide ball shaped Roll through maze-like environments, collecting music notes. If you get them all, Roll’s friend Rock will be saved from the Sky Spirit. You can use the touch screen to control Roll, or you can move your iPhone or iPod Touch to send Roll careening through levels.
It also sounds really similar to the 1989 PC game Rock ‘n’ Roll, which also involved guiding a ball through a maze. Rock ‘n’ Roll, however, didn’t involve collecting music notes or have any story, like Rock’n'Roll. Instead, all you did was get a ball past obstacles from point A to point B.
