Kojima Productions Countdown reveals Big Boss

Big Boss?

Been keeping a close eye on the Kojima Productions “next” website countdown? Well, if not, there has been quite the change since we last posted.

Not only has the Flash video become slightly more filling with dark clouds and heavy rain but we also get a peek at one of the characters from the mysterious (or not-so-mysterious) game: Big Boss.

The image that flashes and then fades out through a discoloring breakup reveals a younger Big Boss with a green beret and he’s not saluting. Joystiq picked up that the beret has a patch on it reading “a military without borders.”

This pretty much confirms the next game is going to be Metal Gear related although we don’t know when or where the game will take place. After Portable Ops perhaps? Maybe this isn’t Big Boss at all but instead one of the various clones?

Whatever the case, another piece of the puzzle was reveled being the letter “P” and “R.” This got me thinking that maybe the formula I noted in the last post has changed from “5 @ E3” to “PS3”. The picture of Big Boss certainly looked like the quality some of the images from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots had so the project could be for the PlayStation 3. Though if we take the “R” into account we have “PRE” or maybe the “R” is for Raiden once again taking over the main character spotlight. A lot of people who once condemned Raiden for being a whiny whimp in MGS 2, were begging for the opportunity to play him in MGS 4, so is this our chance? We won’t know anything until E3 that’s for certain.

Famitsu reveals new Metal Gear

That’s not everything junior detectives, Joystiq posted an update that shows some interesting scans from Famitsu which show not only the Big Boss image here, but Raiden as well. Raiden is decked out in a similar exoskeleton/cyber ninja getup as he wore in MGS 4. Additional images in the scan appear to be the numbers “30” and “56” which could represent the dates 2030 and 1956. The plot thickens and maybe with some time traveling. I wonder how many gigawatts it takes to move a Metal Gear through time?
