Koei plans to release Romance of the Three Kingdoms as an MMO

by Christopher Buckner on Mar 3, 2008 at 10:41 PM

romance of the three kingdoms mmoIn what is the never-ending saga of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and I mean never ending, Koei has found yet another way that they can bleed more cash out from fans with, of all things, a Romance of the Three Kingdoms MMO.

Koei Entertainment Singapore, (Koei being the first major Japanese game development studio to open up in the country) launched cunsumer trials for the MMO in Japan on February 29, 2008. Much like the long running Dynasty Warriors series, the game will retell the epic Chinese story of Han Dynasty in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

It is a good bet that a lot of gamers are already familiar with this history since, much like World War II games, there seems to be half dozen Three Kingdom period games released each year. Now faithful fans can spend hundreds of hours reliving their Dynasty Warriors fantasies online every day and night.

There is no word on when US gamers can expect to get their hands on the Three Kingdom MMO. Based on Koei’s track record, however, the MMO will will likely make its way across the Pacific. Until then, US gamers will have to be content with the recent release of Dynasty Warriors 6, further extending the long line of sequels and expansions retelling the same story in video game form.
