I don’t know about you but when I’m driving I often wonder what my car would look like with a .50 caliber Gatling gun sticking out from my hood. Due to a few pesky laws, that fantasy will only live in my mind. However, we can all live out our fantasies of non-consequential vehicular combat when Death Race flies into theaters on August 22, 2008. Until then Gameloft has taken up the rights to publish a game based on Death Race for mobile phones which will be available on all major carriers sometime in August 2008.
Death Race is a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000. It takes place in a futuristic America which is probably why the title excludes the year 2000 since we have yet to see any cars that shoot missiles. The movie is about prisoners that must compete against each other in a hellish arena using supped up death machines as their primary weapons. The main character Jensen Ames (played by Jason Statham) is forced to compete in the competition after being framed for murder.
The game will feature seven of the movies Steel Beasts in a story that span five episodes. The story mode features distinct matches such as the standard Race mode, Rampage, Eliminator, Shooter, and Boss Battles. Only after the Story mode is complete can you pick and choose any level or challenge to play at any time.
