Important Importables Mini: Epic Japanese release-date is epic

Important Importables logo
Daigasso DX box artIt isn’t uncommon for one or two big titles to be released on the same day or within a few days of each other, (Example: Grand Theft Auto IV and Mario Kart Wii.) but more often than not, publishers will avoid this and scatter dates so their games will get the attention they deserve. Apparently the Japanese DS game publishers wanted to cause a free-for-all June 26, 2008, because five highly anticipated games are being released at once. Six, if you’re excited about Simple DS Series Vol. 39 The Shouboutai (Fire Fighters).

So let’s go over the five major titles being released in Japan:

  • Bleach: The 3rd Phantom: The third Bleach DS game isn’t a fighter by Treasure, like the previous two. Instead, it is a strategic RPG from Sega, with an original story by Tite Kubo, creator of the Bleach manga and series.
  • Bokura no Telebi Game Kentei: This is a title along the same lines as Game Center CX, yet it is also a bit of an educational game. It is a 30 game mini-game collection that teaches you how to be good at Namco Bandai games by sending short challenges at you inspired by classic games.
  • Daigasso! Band Brothers DX: Like the first Daigasso, the second is about making music with your Nintendo DS. The newest version includes 200 downloadable songs, 100 song slots for downloadable, or original, songs, the ability to share songs with others (provided you have a Japanese Wii), a mini karaoke machine and a little guitar simulator. Nintendo’s responsible for developing and publishing this gem.
  • Jigsaw World: Daigekitou! Jig-Battle Heroes: Ah, the intriguing world of jigsaw puzzle battling. Jigsaw World is a remake of a PS1 game with additional content and characters, and involves being the first to complete a jigsaw puzzle multiple people are working on. It’s the first of two Nippon Ichi games being released on the 26th.
  • Makai Senki Disgaea: Makai no Ouji to Akai Tsuki: Of course everyone probably recognizes this title as Disgaea DS, the most recent reincarnation of the popular strategic RPG from NIS starring everyone’s favorite overload, Laharl. The DS version supposedly has another storyline and even more extra content, but alas, no Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support. It is also the only game on this list with a planned US release.

Bleach The 3rd Phantom box artSome other somewhat hyped June 26 DS releases include Breath: Toiki wa Akaneiro (dating sim), Dementium: Heisa Byoutou (Dementium: The Ward), Higurashi no Nakukoru ni Kizuna (visual novel), The Tower DS (think Sim Tower) and Simple DS Series Vol. 39 The Shouboutai (Fire Fighters) (firefighting sim). Personally, I’m hoping to pick up Daigasso DX and Bleach: The 3rd Phantom. Any games on this list look interesting to you?
