Have your baby at the Hello Kitty Hau-Sheng Hospital

Taiwan Hau-Sheng Hospital Hello Kitty
Let me begin by stating this isn’t some sort of strange joke. Everything you are about to read is absolutely true, and if you go to Yuanlin, Taiwan, you can see it yourself.

Ready? Okay.

There is a Hello Kitty hospital. No, seriously. Tsai Tsung-chi spent more than $3 million to open Hau-Sheng Hospital in 2006 and the entire place is Hello Kitty themed. The place has even received authorization from Sanrio, Hello Kitty’s parent company.

It’s fairly small with only 30 beds and it is a maternity hospital designed specifically for welcoming babies into the world. Every room is filled with Hello Kitty decor, from the walls, sheets, patient garbs, bassinets and bedding. Even the doctors and nurses wear pink outfits with Hello Kitty on them. Its a sterile, antiseptic world of pink and white.

Of course, Hello Kitty does come by to visit. Her schedule must be pretty busy, though, because she only comes by twice a year.

Even when you walk away, baby in your arms, you still have special souvenirs of the Hello Kitty delivery. Babies get either blue or pink Hello Kitty receiving blankets and their birth certificates even have Hello Kitty on them. I wonder the blue blankets and boy birth certificates have Dear Daniel on them.

I think the last place I’d want to be after returning to consciousness is a Hello Kitty-themed hospital. Can you imagine waking up with a giant Hello Kitty looming over your head? It’s enough to give you nightmares. I wonder if the hospital has some psychiatrists on staff, to handle the inevitable Hello Kitty-inspired break downs. Plus, seeing everything in various shades of pink and white is bound to make you think that whatever procedure you just had messed up your brain or vision.

I think the image of a Hello Kitty hospital room would be appealing to kids, though I’m not sure if all new born babies are crazy about pink and kittens. And what if you have a baby boy ? Are you supposed to dress him in pink since it’s the official hospital color?
