The Halo 3 feeding frenzy has begun…literally. Microsoft announced today (August 9, 2007) that Burger King will be part of the all out marketing offensive for Halo 3 alongside other venerable brand names such as Pontiac, Mountain Dew, and 7-Eleven. Look for the Master Chief’s battle hardened visage to be staring at you from the sides of drink cups, french fry containers and bags of your favorite synthetically flavored corn chips. Get this — limited edition aluminum bottles of Mountain Dew featuring special designs by Bungie. 7-Eleven is even issuing special Halo 3 themed Slurpee cups. Can you say overkill?
It seems hard to believe that anyone in the group of males ages 18-37, long considered to be the holy grail of target audiences, hasn’t already heard of the Halo series. Either Microsoft isn’t taking any chances or they simply want to rev up the already foaming-at-the-mouth-with-anticipation buzz factor that surrounds everything Halo 3. I’m inclined to believe the later.
There will be some pretty neat prizes though, including a voice acting spot for the upcoming RTS Halo Wars which is being given away by 7-Eleven. Add to that Pontiac’s limited-edition G6 GXP street car and you’ve got two very lucky gamers.
