OK, here’s the deal. There’s a guy who can not only beat “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but he can get 97% of the notes and get a streak over 1000. In the immortal words of Stan Lee: “ ‘nuff said.” Now, if by some chance you don’t know what I’m talking about, take the next shuttle back to Earth and read on.
“Through the Fire and Flames” is a song by the band DragonForce and one of the hardest songs in the history of the Guitar Hero franchise. This song was even considered by many, myself included, undoable on the expert difficulty. There was even a rumor of a guy who tried and lost one of the fingers on his left hand and ended up with a mis-shaped claw where his right hand used to be.
Now I have been proven completely wrong by a 16-year-old boy from Rochester, Minn. (USA) by the name of Chris Chike, who won a tournament where apparently all the contestants were true guitar heroes, as all of them had to play “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert. His victory got him the Guinness World Record for highest score on GHIII with the following stats: 97% notes hit, 1105 note streak and a score of 870, 647. This feat is nothing short of impressive and anyone who has ever tried that song will know what I’m talking about.
The fact that Guitar Hero appears in the Guinness World Records shows what a worldwide phenomenon this game has become and how it has changed the way people interact with video games. Maybe this will help in getting video games closer to the mainstream entertainment and in doing so help in advancing the industry toward bigger and better games.
