Amazon.com has gotten into the digital video game download business. So now, Windows users can instantly buy and play a video game downloaded from the site. There are over 600 games available at the moment. Plus, each game has a free, 30 minute demo so you can try before you buy.
It’s pretty convenient, but it gets better. At the moment, Amazon is offering three free, full games to get people to check out the Game Downloads section of the site. So if you ever wanted Build-A-Lot, Jewel Quest II or The Scruffs, now’s a good time to pick them up. Normally, you’d have to pay between $6.99 and $9.99 for these games.
You will still need a credit card on hand to make your “purchase” though. After you choose your free game, you will probably be asked to submit credit card information and give a billing address. (I was.) The Review & Purchase page will show the game as being free though, so you have nothing to worry about. Just click to get your game.
You will need to get the free, 3.0mb Amazon Games & Software Downloader, however, in order to actually download the games you purchase. Only Windows XP and Vista PCs can use it, so keep that in mind.
A nice feature to all this is that your Amazon account now has a Games & Software Library. Here, you can download your games, in case you weren’t able to initially. Its a nice little backup section, with all your purchased titles in one place.
