In this modern arcade-style game with retro spirit, the player controls a space ship that must annihilate a never-ending onslaught of various enemy shapes. Players can use either four- or eight-way buttons, as well as the keypad to maneuver the game with the same precision as the original XBox mini-game found on Project Gotham Racing 2. It was later followed by a sequel, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, released for XBox Live Arcade and Windows XP/Vista in November 2005.
This game is so fun that I still remember playing the PC version. Now my father has the game and, on those occasions when he wants to hide from my mother and her two-page honey-do lists, he will lock his computer room doors and play for hours. The only difference between the PC and mobile version is that the news release includes eight brand new game play modes: Untouchable, Survivor, Monster, Trenches, Speed, Multiplier, Feline and Bomber.
If you want to see how well your playing compared to the rest of the gamers, players can view the online leader board using their cellphones.
This game is continuing to evolve and expand to other platforms including the upcoming release of Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Wii and DS in Fall 2007.
