Gen Con clears up Christian Children’s Fund confusion

Gen Con
The story about Christians Children’s Fund refusual to accept a charitable donation from Gen Con because of Gen Con’s relationship to Dungeons & Dragons has resulted in some bad publicity for CCF. Gen Con has decided to clear up this issue once and for all.

Jeannette LeGault, the Director of Event Planning for Gen Con wrote a lengthy statement on the Gen Con forums explaining that CCF did not refuse the donation. Gen Con simply chose another charity after some confusion arose. Here’s the breakdown of the incident.

Gen Con typically chooses a charity based on several criteria such as its proximity to Indianapolis, its commitment to children and its relation to math, science or gaming. After the co-founder of D&D and founder of Gen Con, Gary Gygax, died on March 4, 2008, Gen Con decided to go a different route in choosing a charity. It decided to choose a favorite charity of Gygax instead of following its normal routine. One of Gygax’s favorite charities was the Christian Children’s Fund so Gen Con decided to go with them.

Gen Con was then misinformed that the CCF could not provide Gen Con with its logo or other promotional materials because of Gen Con’s association with D&D. This is where all the confusion began. Many thought this was the sole reason why CCF refused to take a donation from Gen Con. It turns out CCF has no such gripe about D&D and by the time this news got around, Gen Con had already chosen Fisher House as the charity it would donate to.

We hope this helps to clear all the confusion and ill feelings towards the CCF as this was just one big misunderstanding. Put down all the torches and magic wands because this battle is over.
